1. Where to Find This Setting
You can manage this setting on the Driver Safety Settings page:
Navigate to: Manage > Driver Safety > Driver Safety Settings
On this page, look for the checkbox labeled:
“Driver app users can force removal of another driver”
This setting is separate from Auto Sign Out Drivers/Operators, but they often work together (explained below).
2. What This Option Is For
Normally, if a truck is already assigned to Driver A, another driver (Driver B) may not be able to select that same truck in the Driver App because it is still tied to Driver A.
The “Driver app users can force removal of another driver” option is designed to fix that problem:
When enabled, a driver using the Driver App can:
Select a truck that is still assigned to another driver, and
The system will automatically remove (unassign) the previous driver from that truck,
Then assign the new driver instead.
In short:
Turn this ON if you want drivers to be able to “take over” a truck from the app, without office staff having to manually free it up first.
3. What Should Happen When It’s Enabled
With “Driver app users can force removal of another driver” turned ON, the intended behavior is:
Truck currently assigned to Driver A
On the Assign Drivers to Equipment page, you see Driver A assigned to truck 123.
If you use App as a Device (AaaD), Driver A may also show with a phone icon (coupled) and appear on AaaD Fleet Status for that truck.
Driver B opens the Driver App and selects truck 123
Because this setting is enabled:
The system should automatically unassign Driver A from truck 123.
Then assign Driver B to truck 123 as the current driver.
Result in the system
In the Driver App: Driver B is now the active driver for truck 123.
On Assign Drivers to Equipment: Driver A is no longer assigned to truck 123; Driver B is.
If AaaD is used:
Driver B should become the current AaaD driver for that truck.
Driver A should no longer appear as the active AaaD driver.
This is meant to handle real‑world cases like:
Shift change at the same truck
The prior driver forgot to sign out
Dispatch needs drivers to self‑manage truck hand‑offs
4. What Happens When It’s Disabled
If “Driver app users can force removal of another driver” is OFF:
A driver using the Driver App cannot simply “take” a truck that is already assigned to someone else.
Instead, to free up the truck, you must either:
Have the current driver sign out / stop driving that truck, or
Wait for Auto Sign Out to unassign them after a period of inactivity, or
Use Assign Drivers to Equipment in the web app to manually unassign/decouple the previous driver.
This can result in:
Trucks not appearing in the Select Truck list because they are still assigned to another driver.
More admin work for office staff if drivers often forget to sign out.
5. How This Works with App as a Device (AaaD)
If you use App as a Device (AaaD), the behavior is similar, but with the extra concept of phone coupling.
When “Driver app users can force removal of another driver” is ON and you’re using AaaD:
Driver B selecting a truck in the Driver App should:
Unassign Driver A from that truck, and
Assign/couple Driver B as the current AaaD driver for that truck.
On the Assign Drivers to Equipment page, you may see this reflected by the phone icon next to the current AaaD‑coupled driver. When this feature works as designed:
The phone icon moves from Driver A to Driver B when Driver B takes over the truck in the app.
If you see trucks showing as “stuck” on the wrong driver (still assigned or still showing the phone icon) even when this setting is ON, that’s a situation where you should capture details and contact support (driver names, truck, date/time, and screenshots if possible).
6. How This Relates to Auto Sign Out / Auto Unassign
These two settings live on the same Driver Safety Settings page, and they solve different but related problems:
6.1 Auto Sign Out Drivers/Operators
What it does:
Automatically unassigns drivers/operators from equipment after a period of inactivity.How it works:
The system watches for specific activity packets from the device or AaaD (Engine On/Off/Running, Transport Begin/Update).
If no such packets are seen for the configured time (for example, 2 hours), the system auto‑signs the driver out.
Good for end‑of‑shift cleanup when drivers forget to sign out.
Typical use case:
“If a driver leaves for the day and forgets to sign out, I still want the system to clear them off the truck by tomorrow.”
6.2 “Driver app users can force removal of another driver”
What it does:
Lets a driver immediately take over a truck from another driver, directly from the Driver App.How it works:
When a new driver selects a truck that’s already assigned, the system unassigns the old driver and assigns the new one right away.
You do not have to wait for inactivity or Auto Sign Out.
Typical use case:
“At shift change, the new driver just picks the truck and automatically becomes the driver, even if the previous driver forgot to sign out.”
6.3 When to Use Each (or Both)
You can think of them this way:
Turn ON Auto Sign Out to:
Automatically clean up old/stale assignments after trucks sit idle.
Reduce overnight or weekend “stuck” assignments.
Turn ON “Driver app users can force removal of another driver” to:
Let drivers instantly take over a truck in the app, without waiting or calling the office.
Reduce support calls like “I can’t see my truck in the list” because it’s still assigned to someone else.
Most fleets benefit from using both:
Auto Sign Out handles end‑of‑day / long‑idle cleanup.
“Force removal” handles live, in‑the‑moment hand‑offs between drivers.
7. Troubleshooting and Tips
7.1 A driver can’t see their truck in the Select Truck list
Check:
Is the truck currently assigned to another driver?
Is “Driver app users can force removal of another driver” turned ON?
Is the truck still sending activity (Engine/Transport) that might keep the previous assignment active?
Possible fixes:
Turn this option ON so the new driver can take over the truck from the app.
Or manually unassign the current driver on the Assign Drivers to Equipment page.
Or rely on Auto Sign Out (if enabled) to clear the assignment after inactivity.
7.2 Trucks look “stuck” on the wrong driver even with the option enabled
If you see any of these:
The Assign Drivers to Equipment page still shows the old driver assigned or still shows the phone icon,
AaaD Fleet Status still shows the old driver as the AaaD driver,
The new driver can’t take over the truck as expected in the app,
then:
Capture:
Truck ID,
Old driver and new driver names,
Date/time the new driver tried to select the truck,
Screenshots if possible.
Contact support so we can review the assignment and AaaD coupling history for that truck and driver.
8. Summary

It’s especially helpful when drivers forget to sign out and you don’t want office staff to manually clear assignments all day.
Auto Sign Out / Auto Unassign is a time‑based, inactivity‑driven feature that cleans up old assignments after trucks sit idle.
Used together, they:
Allow instant truck hand‑offs in the field, and
Keep your assignments clean over time, even when drivers forget to sign out.
