1 Purpose
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for properly installing and commissioning the GS-290 device to ensure reliable operation, accurate engine-state reporting, and long-term durability.
2 Pre-Installation Inspection
Remove the GS-290 from its packaging.
Inspect the device casing, solar panel, and magnet mounts for any cracks, breaks, or visible damage.
Important: If the casing or solar panel is damaged, the device no longer meets its IP67 rating and must not be installed.
Confirm the CLA harness and wall adapter are present and free of damage.
3 Mounting Location Selection
Identify a mounting location on the equipment that:
Provides a clear and unobstructed view of the sky to ensure proper solar charging.
Is a flat, clean metal surface to allow the magnets to fully engage.
Is protected from impact, excessive vibration, and areas where the device could be struck or knocked loose.
Ensure the location allows easy access to the manual engine-state button.
Verify the mounting location does not interfere with normal equipment operation or maintenance.
4 Device Mounting (Magnetic)
Clean the mounting surface to remove dirt, oil, and debris.
Position the GS-290 on the selected surface.
Allow the four high-strength magnets to fully seat against the metal surface.
Confirm the device is firmly attached and does not shift when light force is applied.
Note: Proper surface contact is critical for magnetic retention. Do not mount to painted, curved, or uneven surfaces that prevent full magnet contact.
5 Power & Charging Options
Primary Power — Solar
The GS-290 is powered primarily by its internal solar panel.
Ensure the device remains unobstructed and exposed to sunlight for optimal charging.
Secondary Power — CLA Harness
If supplemental charging is required, connect the CLA harness to the device.
Route the harness safely along the equipment, securing it to prevent:
Chafing
Pinching
Contact with sharp edges, moving parts, or high-heat areas
Connect the CLA harness to an appropriate power source per installation requirements.
Alternative Charging — Wall Adapter
The GS-290 may also be charged using the included wall adapter.
This allows the device to be charged:
While installed in the equipment (if access allows), or
Off the equipment by plugging directly into a wall outlet.
Verify the device is charging before disconnecting.
6 Engine State Configuration (Manual Button Operation)
The GS-290 uses a manual button to indicate engine state.
When the equipment is started:
Press the button to select Engine Running.
A green LED will flash, indicating the device is active and reporting.
While in the Engine Running state:
The GS-290 reports engine-running data every 30 seconds.
When the equipment is shut down:
Press the button again to select Engine Stop.
Confirm the engine state selection matches the actual equipment status before leaving the site.
7 Device Coupling
Once the device is securely mounted and powered, couple the GS-290 to the corresponding piece of equipment using the appropriate platform or system.
Verify the device is correctly associated with the intended asset.
Confirm engine-running events appear in the platform at 30-second intervals when active.
8 Operation & Reporting
Engine Running: Reports every 30 seconds when manually activated.
Standard Reporting: Reports heartbeat once daily when not running
Power is maintained primarily through solar charging, with optional support from:
CLA harness
Wall adapter charging
