Adjust Meters

Manually correct the hour meter, lifetime hours, or odometer for GS-283/4 hardwired devices if automatic readings are unavailable.

Introduction

Occasionally it becomes necessary to update an hour meter or odometer for a piece of equipment in your fleet. Whether it’s due to a broken physical meter or an incorrect value in the system, FleetWatcher provides a way to make corrections using the Adjust Meters page.

This tool is designed for GS-283/4 hardwired units only. It should only be used when bus-connected readings are not available, and only after basic troubleshooting steps have been taken.

Navigation

To access this feature:

Go to: Manage > Equipment > Adjust Meters

Use This Page To:

  • Correct hour meter or odometer data for GS-283/4 devices

  • Resolve issues from broken physical meters or incorrect values

  • Apply changes from a selected timestamp forward (does not affect previous data)

  • Review past changes in the Audit Log

Step-by-step Instructions

  1. Select the Equip Number from the dropdown.

  2. Enter the Start Date when the reading was taken.

  3. Click Select to load transmissions from that date.

  4. In the table, choose the transmission closest to the actual time the reading was recorded.

  5. Click the Date Select radio button next to the best match.

  6. Enter one or more of the following:

    • Hour Meter (max: 99,999.9)

    • Lifetime Hours (max: 999,999.9)

    • Odometer (max: 9,999,999.9)

  7. Click Apply Adjustment to save your changes.

⚠️ The adjustment only affects data from the selected timestamp forward — not prior data.

Audit Log & Adjustment Limits

  • If previous meter adjustments exist, an Audit Log will appear.

    • The log shows the field changed, date/time, old value, new value, and the user who made the change.

  • Value entry limits:

    • Hour Meter: up to 99,999.9

    • Lifetime Hours: up to 999,999.9

    • Odometer: up to 9,999,999.9

Behavior When Odometer/Hour Meter is Null

If a meter value is null (displayed as “–”), FleetWatcher will not allow adjustments.

This prevents errors that occurred in earlier versions when users tried adjusting data that didn’t exist.

Make sure the device has reported at least one valid reading before attempting to use Adjust Meters.

Important Notes

  • Use this tool only for GS-283/4 hardwired units.

  • Do not use it for:

    • GS-3640e

    • GS-303 (These offsets must be adjusted in Add/Edit Equipment)

  • Not all bus-connected devices report the hour meter, but most should.

  • If values aren’t showing, confirm:

    • The harness is connected to the correct ECM port

    • The right cable type is in use

  • This page is meant for exceptions only.

    • ECM readings, if they resume later, will overwrite manual entries

    • Meter readings are based on the asset, not the device

  • Certain assets (e.g., some Volvo and Komatsu models) may consistently fail to report meter data — these are rare.
