How to Remove or Delete a Project or Geo-Zone

Understand the difference between removing a project and deleting a geo-zone, and learn the recommended actions based on your goals.

Introduction

Customers often ask how to “delete” a project, but this term can mean different things depending on the situation. In FleetWatcher, there is no hard delete option for projects or geo-zones. Instead, there are two primary ways to remove them from view:

  • Deactivate a project to hide its geo-zone and archive it safely

  • Delete a geo-zone manually (only when the physical job site has moved)

This article explains both options so you can choose the best path for your workflow.

Navigation

To deactivate a project:

Go to: Manage > Projects > Projects and click the Deactivate icon.

To delete a geo-zone:

Go to: Map, right-click the zone, and select Delete Polygon.

Option 1: Deactivate the Project (Recommended)

Deactivating a project hides its geo-zone and removes it from active use while preserving all historical data.

What happens when you deactivate:

  • ✅ Geo-zone is hidden from the map

  • ✅ Project no longer appears in dropdowns for shift or equipment assignment

  • ✅ Equipment is unassigned and tracked on the Move Equipment page

  • ✅ Historical data remains visible in reports and search

🧠 Best for: Jobs that are complete but must be retained for reporting or compliance.

Option 2: Delete the Geo-Zone (Map Page)

If the job location has changed or a zone was drawn incorrectly, you can delete the geo-zone directly from the map.

How to delete a geo-zone:

  1. Go to: Map

  2. Locate the geo-zone on the map

  3. Right-click on the geo-zone

  4. Select Delete Polygon from the menu

  5. Confirm the warning that appears

⚠️ Warning:

Deleting a polygon cannot be undone.

Once deleted, there is no remaining location data for that project unless a new zone is drawn.

🔄 Best for: Portable plants or job sites that have moved and require a new geo-zone.

Which Option Should I Use?

Scenario

Best Option

Project is complete, but data needs to be saved

✅ Deactivate the project

Geo-zone was drawn in the wrong location

🗑 Delete and redraw on the map

Portable plant has moved to a new site

🗑 Delete old geo-zone and draw a new one

You want to completely remove a project from view

✅ Deactivate (projects can’t be deleted)

Reminder

There is no delete function for projects in FleetWatcher.

  • Deactivation is the safest and most complete way to remove a project from daily use while preserving history.

  • Geo-zones must be managed from the Map page, not the project screen.
