Introduction
Custom Project Types help organize your projects based on the kind of work being done—like Paving, Site Prep, or Bridge Demo. You can create names that match your internal terminology and assign them a Category so the system treats them correctly in Virtual Shift Tickets (VSTs) and reports.
This guide walks through how to create a new type and explains why the category selection matters.
Navigation
To access this feature:
Go to: Manage > Projects > Projects
Click the Project Types button at the top
Click the +New (red) button in the popup
Step-by-step Instructions
Click Project Types
From the Projects page, click the Project Types button.
A popup will appear showing all current project types grouped by category.
Click +New (Red) Button
Opens the Add Project Type popup.
Enter a Name
Choose a label that reflects the kind of work the project involves.
Example: Paving, Night Shift Milling, Bridge Approach, etc.
Select a Category
This step is critical. The Category determines how the system handles the project in VSTs and reporting.
Category Options and Their Purpose
Category | System Behavior |
Asphalt Plant | Treated as a Source in VSTs |
Aggregate Plant | Treated as a Source in VSTs |
Job Site | Treated as a Destination in VSTs |
Dump Site | Treated as a Destination in VSTs |
Other | Not used in VSTs – good for Shops, Yards, etc. |
Unauthorized Stops | Deducts time in VSTs and shows in red on LCA Graphs |
⚠️ Reminder: If the category is not set correctly, VSTs may be incomplete or incorrect.
Save the Project Type
Click Save to add your new type to the list.
It will now be available for selection when creating or editing a project.
Best Practices
✅ Use naming that makes sense to your operations (e.g., Day Shift Milling vs. General Paving)
✅ Assign the correct category based on how the project will function in VSTs
❌ Avoid duplicate names or using the same name across multiple categories
