Add Edit Custom Equipment Type.

This section allows users to create and manage a custom list of equipment types.

Introduction:

This section allows users to create and manage a custom list of equipment types, integral for organizing equipment lists. Pay rates associated with these types influence TcPT (Trucking Cost Per Ton) and Virtual Shift Tickets reports.

Navigation:

To access this feature:

Go to: Manage > Equipment > Add/Edit Custom Equipment Types


Views:

  • Table View: Displays all custom equipment types.

  • Card View: Each equipment type can be viewed individually, with access to hourly and tonnage rates.

To create a new custom equipment type, click on the "Add New Custom Equipment Type” button in the top left corner. A popup will appear in the center of the screen.

Custom Equipment Type Options and Definitions:

Types are categories of equipment, so this isn’t your particular piece of equipment; it’s the different (general) categories of equipment that you have, like: mills, pavers, dump trucks, lowboys, etc.

  • Custom Equipment Type Name: Represents general categories (e.g., mills, pavers, dump trucks).

  • Custom Equipment Type Description: Optional detail about the type.

  • Pay Class: An alphanumeric designation that links to Virtual Shift Tickets exports and impacts future ticketing.

  • Weight Class: For camera‑equipped trucks, the Weight Class on your Custom Equipment Types is now passed into VisionMax and kept in sync. When you couple a truck to a camera or change its custom equipment type, the camera uses the updated weight class to apply the right vehicle configuration instead of falling back to a generic default.

    • Dropdown Options: Low, Medium, Heavy.

  • Track Stops: This checkbox was created for 2 customers that receive an automated emailed Daily Stop Report.

    • Note: This setting does not alter the results provided by the legacy Stop Report.

  • Required Authorization Types: Customers can associate one or more Authorization Types with specific Equipment Types. For example, you might create an Authorization Type (e.g., Tri-Axle) and assign it to Drivers/Operators who have the required training and certification.

    • Create Authorization Types by navigating to: Manage > Equipment > Add/Edit Authorization Types.

    • To set the Authorization Type for a driver, navigate to Add/Edit Drivers in the driver profile and select the appropriate authorization type. This ensures that only authorized drivers/operators can operate the designated equipment types.

  • Required Certification Types: Administrators can define which professional certifications (e.g., DOT Brake Inspector, CDL) are mandatory for operating specific classes of equipment. This ensures that compliance requirements are captured at the equipment configuration level.


Setting Pay and Bill Rates:

Customers can define pay and bill rates for different conditions, including by Hour, Ton, Night/Day, or Pay/Bill. All pay rates will default to 0.00.

  • Pay Rate: The amount paid to workers per hour, week, etc.

  • Bill Rate: The rate charged by a company or professional per hour of work.

Custom Equipment Type Day/Night, Bill/Pay Rates: Per Ton.

  • Per Ton: Used primarily for dump trucks. Enter the cost of operating the truck or average tonnage in these fields. These rates are optional and are used for Virtual Shift Tickets and TcPT (Total Cost Per Ton) reports.

Custom Equipment Type Day/Night, Bill/Pay Rates: Cubic Yard (CMS Shifts).

  • Cubic Yard: You can enter Bill and/or Pay rates for equipment types that operate on a per-yard basis (volume of material).

Custom Equipment Type Day/Night, Bill/Pay Rates: Per Load.

  • Per Load: Functions the same as Per Ton / Per Hour

Off-Road Rate:

  • Off-Road Rate: provides a rate seen in the Summary Productivity Report. Building the run time of the asset and presenting a by hour charge for the off-road asset.

Overrides and Virtual Shift Tickets Quick Edit on the Add/Edit Shifts page:

  • On the Add/Edit Shift page under the How section, if a rate is set, it will override the Pay By Load rates for the Custom Equipment Type working the shift.

  • On the Virtual Shift Ticket Quick Edit screen, the Pay Rate Per Load column (scroll to the right) will appear when details are selected.

  • There’s also an option to Apply All Rate Per Load within the Edit window under the “Rates Section”.


  • Custom Equipment Type Default Load UST: Represents the truck's capacity in tons, The value is used to calculate tonnage for non-scale ticketed loads. This value appears on the Tracked/Untracked column on Today's Shifts.

    • Please note that it is an estimate and not an exact representation of total loads.

    • For the TCpT Report, loads are based on both scale ticket integration and trucks that complete both the source and destination. For trucks without a ticketed load, the "Default Net UST" haul capacity defined at the Custom Equipment Type level is used.

    • Note: Ensure the Shift's Source and Destination are accurate for proper tonnage calculations.

  • Custom Equipment Type Default Volume CYD: (Cubic Yard – This is volume not weight)

    • Note: Like the Total Tons for CMS shifts, in order for the Yards fields to populate on the shift card, there must be at least one CMS truck type working on the shift with a default CYD set. If these values are not set for any equipment working the shift, the Total Yards field will not appear on the shift card.

  • Custom Equipment Type Minimum Hours: Used for Virtual Shift Ticket (VST) purposes. If trucks are guaranteed a minimum of 4 hours of pay per day, enter "4" in this field. If the truck only worked 2 hours due to weather or other factors, the system will automatically adjust and add the remaining hours (e.g., 2 hours) to meet the minimum.

  • Custom Equipment Type Minimum Runtime: Returns the number of Days Worked for equipment on the Utilization Summary Report.

    • This field accepts time in either hours or minutes.

    • To set a minimum runtime in hours, enter the value as a decimal (e.g., 6.5 for 6 hours and 30 minutes).

    • To enter the minimum runtime in minutes, click the "Hr/Min" toggle button on the right and input the time in minutes (e.g., enter 390 for 6 hours and 30 minutes).

    • This ensures the equipment is considered as having "worked a day" only if the specified runtime is met within a 24-hour period.

  • Disable Auto-Unassign from Projects (On-Road Equipment Only): This option gives users more control over which on-road equipment is automatically unassigned from projects 24 hours after the last qualifying scale ticket. To prevent auto-unassignment, check the box for any equipment types you want to exclude. Note: This setting does not apply to off-road equipment, as off-road equipment is never auto-unassigned.


Custom Equipment Types Category:

The Equipment Type category tells the FleetWatcher system which types of equipment need to be considered for the Virtual Shift Tickets.

  • Because this is an MDS-specific feature, there are certain classifications of equipment that we recommend setting up.

  • Pavers, milling machines, shuttle buggies, loaders and excavators are equipment that we suggest setting up to ensure they are captured as sources or destinations by the Virtual Shift Tickets.

  • Choosing the correct category directly affects your Virtual Shift Tickets.

  • In order to have a paver, for example, be accounted for as a destination in the Virtual Shift Tickets system, you will need to select “Paver” in the Custom Equipment Type Category dropdown.

Note: This is a required field.

NOTE: The categories that are captured by the Virtual Shift Tickets are Paver, Mill, Loader and Excavator. Other Paving Equipment and Other Non-Paving Equipment will not be considered for Virtual Shift Tickets calculations.


Inspections:

  • Inspections: Set Inspections for your equipment type use the dropdown to select Yes or No.

  • Inspection Checklist: Use this dropdown to select the specific checklist you want drivers to perform.


Setup Clock-In and Clock-Out Settings per Equipment Type:

  • Clock-In/Out settings can be configured in three locations within FleetWatcher:

    • MMS Controls.

    • Add/Edit Shifts.

    • Add/Edit Equipment Type.

  • The Clock-In/Out settings in MMS Controls take priority and are overridden by Shift or Equipment Type settings.

  • Shift settings can be applied, but they will be overridden by any specific Equipment Type settings.

  • For example, if a Shift has Clock-In/Out settings, these will apply to all equipment working that shift, unless the equipment type has its own dedicated Clock-In/Out settings.

  • Auto-Unassign Features: Provides control over project assignments, particularly for on-road equipment, ensuring better resource allocation.


  • Exclude from Shifts: Check this box if the equipment type should never be included in Shift Activity (LCAs).


Driver Safety Settings: Custom settings can be applied to maintain safety protocols across equipment types.

  • Use Company Default: checkbox will use the settings saved in Manage > Driver Safety > Driver Safety Settings.

    • To set Driver Safety thresholds by Equipment Type, Uncheck the "Use Company Default" checkbox.

    • Set Thresholds and Infraction Points for Speeding and Aggressive infractions points.


Icon Category:

Choose the icon that will represent this equipment type on the Map.

  • Select the dropdown to choose a category.

  • Select the icon by clicking on the image.

  • A red board will appear around the selected image.

Click Save:

The window will close and the new equipment type will appear in your list.


Edit Custom Equipment Type:

Under the Action column, you will find Edit and Delete buttons.

To update or modify an equipment type:

  1. Click the Edit button.

  2. Make the necessary changes.

  3. Scroll to the bottom and click Save to apply the updates.
