FleetWatcher Device Installation & Verification Guide
Welcome to FleetWatcher
In this guide, you'll learn the best practices for preparing, verifying, and coupling your FleetWatcher devices after installation.
1. Preparing for Installation
Step 1: Get the FleetWatcher App
Download the FleetWatcher mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
You can also scan the QR code on your screen for your device type.
If you don’t have a login, contact your company’s FleetWatcher Admin to get your account set up.
2. Understanding Your Shipment
Step 1: Review the Contents
Inside your FleetWatcher shipping box, locate the binder labeled “FleetWatcher Installation and Hardware Guide.”
In the front pocket, you’ll find an equipment list matching each asset to its compatible device.
Always follow this list to avoid installation errors.
Devices are configured for specific equipment manufacturers and models.
Step 2: Match Devices and Cables
Different manufacturers use different cable connections.
Devices are configured for on-road or off-road equipment.
Do not swap devices between equipment types — using an off-road device on a truck will cause inaccurate reporting.
Step 3: Check the Binder Pages
The binder includes:
A New Customer Checklist
A Familiarization Page
If anything is missing, call the number printed on the page to reach the Operations Team.
Step 4: Verify Device Quantities
Review the checklist pages showing images of each device type.
Use the provided space to note the quantities received.
Step 5: Access the Installation Guide
After the checklist pages, review the full installation guide with step-by-step instructions.
You can also access a digital version in the FleetWatcher app:
Tap Devices → Device Installation Guide.
3. Device Startup Process
Step 1: Power On the Equipment
Once connected, start the engine or power on the equipment.
Step 2: Wait for Device Boot-Up
The LED lights will flash during startup and may take 2–5 minutes to complete.
When fully powered and connected, the lights will turn solid.
Step 3: Wait Before Verification
You will not be able to verify the device in the app until this startup process is complete.
4. Verifying Device Functionality
Step 1: Confirm Device is Reporting
Open the FleetWatcher mobile app.
Tap Devices → Verify GPS Device.
Enter the ESN and tap Search.
Step 2: Check Two Key Indicators
Ensure the screen shows:
Engine Running
Connected to at least 8 satellites
With eight or more satellites, the device is functional and reporting reliably.
Step 3: Troubleshoot if No Data Appears
If no data appears or LEDs are still blinking:
The device may still be connecting.
Move equipment outside if it’s indoors or under a metal roof.
If issues persist, contact Field Operations for support.
Step 4: Verify Engine Data (Bus-Connected Devices)
For bus-connected devices, confirm the app displays:
RPM
Odometer
Engine Hours
Fuel Usage
Verify these readings match your equipment gauges.
5. Setting Idle Threshold
Step 1: Locate Idle Threshold
At the bottom of the verification screen, find Idle Threshold.
Choose one of two options:
Set Using Current RPM
Enter RPM Manually
Step 2: Set Using Current RPM
Ensure the engine is idling.
Tap Set Using Current RPM.
A pop-up displays the detected RPM and a recommended threshold.
Tap Yes to confirm and save.
Step 3: Enter RPM Manually
Tap Enter RPM Manually.
Scroll through the list and select the correct RPM.
Tap Save to confirm.
Note: For hardwired devices, idle threshold fields appear but are not applicable — you can safely ignore them.
6. Coupling the GPS Device
Step 1: Start Coupling Process
In the app, tap Devices → Field Service Ticket.
Tap Choose ESN, then enter the ESN number.
Select the device from the search results and tap Select.
Step 2: Choose Equipment
Tap Asset and select the correct equipment name.
Tap Continue to proceed.
Step 3: Confirm Device and Company Info
Review the company and device details at the top of the screen (read-only fields).
Step 4: Set the Couple Date
Enter the Couple Date (required).
Default is today’s date.
You may select up to three days in the past if installed earlier.
Step 5: Add Optional Details
Coupling Notes: Record installation notes.
Hour Meter / Run Hours / Odometer: Enter readings for accuracy.
Wiring Notes: Useful for advanced installations.
Idle Timer Toggle: Only disable for stationary equipment that doesn’t idle.
Step 6: Complete Coupling
Tap Couple to finalize.
When the confirmation pop-up appears, tap OK.
Return to the home menu:
Devices → FleetWatcher.
