Assign Device to Equipment

Couple or Decouple CLA, BUS, and Hardwired. devices.

Introduction

The Assign Device to Equipment page allows you to link or unlink devices to your equipment. Each device has a unique ESN (Equipment Serial Number). After physically connecting the device to your equipment (via hardwiring or BUS connection), use this page to couple or decouple the device to the corresponding equipment number.

Note: ACL Required: You need to have the "Manage Devices" and "Report Devices" permissions to access this functionality.

Go to: Manager > Devices > Assign Device To Equipment.


Overview:

The Assign Device to Equipment page is organized with Devices on the left and Equipment on the right, each with filtering options at the top:

  • OTR Status Filter: Choose from On Road, Off Road, or BLE Asset.

  • Company Filter: Filter by specific company.

Devices (Left Side):

  • Filter by individual device or devices assigned to a company.

  • Displays a list of all uncoupled devices.

Equipment (Right Side):

  • Filter by equipment type or equipment company.

  • Shows both coupled and uncoupled equipment.

  • Coupled equipment displays the equipment number above the device ESN.


How to Assign (Couple) a Device

  1. Filter Results:

    • Use the filters at the top to narrow down the list of devices and equipment.

    • Use the search box under Devices to find the desired ESN.

    • Use the search box under Equipment to locate the asset name.

  2. Couple the Device:

    • Click on the ESN under Devices, drag it to the corresponding asset name under Equipment, and release.

    • A popup window will appear displaying the equipment details.

  3. Enter Installation Details:

    • Select the date when the FleetWatcher device was physically installed on the equipment. You may backdate this by 3 days, if needed. The time defaults to 00:00 GMT of the date you select.

    • Enter in a Couple Note to let fellow FleetWatcher users who completed the coupling request. This field will default to the long date/time and logged in user name.

    • Enter the Physical Hour Meter, Lifetime Hour Meter and Odometer of the machine at the time of device installation. For machines without odometers or hour meters, the fields will default to 0.

    • Supp Timer 1 and Counter will automatically be enabled. If the Load Counter wire is not installed, no data will accrue.

    • Idle Timer will automatically be enabled. If you are installing the Fleetwatcher device on stationary equipment (i.e. an arrow board or generator), please uncheck this box.

  4. Complete the Process:

    • Click Couple to finalize the assignment.


Handling Device and Company Errors

  • If you receive an error message stating that the device and equipment belong to different companies:

    • Option to Move: Click "OK" to have the system move the device to the equipment's company, or use the Assign Device To Company option to do it manually.


Decoupling a Device from Equipment

  1. Search for Equipment:

    • Use the search box to find the asset by its name.

  2. Select the Gray Box:

    • Click on the gray box corresponding to the coupled equipment.

  3. Adjust Date/Time:

    • Modify the decoupling date and/or time if needed.

  4. Decouple:

    • Click the Decouple button to remove the device from the equipment.


Viewing Device Installation History

FleetWatcher logs every instance of a device being coupled or decoupled from equipment.

To review this history:

  1. Navigate to: Fleet > Devices > Device Installation History.

  2. Search by ESN or Asset Name to view the installation history.


Visual Indicators

  • Coupled Equipment:

    • Gray boxes represent coupled devices (showing ESN and Asset Name).

    • White boxes indicate uncoupled asset names.
