Create Geozone

A Geozone is a digital barrier you will create around asphalt plants and job sites.

What is a Geozone?:

A Geozone is a digital barrier you will create around asphalt plants and job sites. FleetWatcher will capture the amount of time equipment spends in each geo-zone.

Geo-zones are drawn on the Map and can be added to an existing project, or as the start of a new project. To quickly find a location, right-click anywhere on the Map to access the Center on Address or Center on Coordinates fields. These tools allow you to jump to a specific location before you begin drawing.

What is a Sub Geo‑Zone?

A sub geo‑zone is a geozone that represents a specific area inside a larger geozone, such as a plant, pit, or yard. Examples of sub geo‑zones inside a plant might include:

  • Load rack / loading area

  • Scales

  • Tarp area or staging area

  • Specific ramps or stockpiles

  • Unloading spots within a yard

In the system, sub geo‑zones are configured as geozones with the project type sub-geozone.


Finding Your Location

To begin drawing, you first need to navigate to the correct area on the map. You can do this in two ways:

  • Option A: Manual Navigation (Fastest) Use your mouse to click and drag the map and the scroll wheel to zoom in (just like Google Maps). Once you see your job site, right-click and select Create Geozone.

  • Option B: Search by Address (Precise)

    • Right-click anywhere on the map and select Center on Address.

    • Type the address and click Center. The map will move to that location and the menu will close.

    • Important: Once the map is centered, you must right-click the map again to re-open the menu and select Create Geozone to start drawing.


Create Geozone

Navigate to the Map by clicking on the word Map in the top left section of the navigation bar.

  1. Right-click on the map to open the options window.

  2. Select Create Geozone.

  3. Left click and release until the location has been outlined.

  4. Click inside the geozone to open the Project options.

Note: Press the Escape key at any time to restart your geo-zone drawing.

Next: Identify the new Geozone with an existing Project or a New Project.


Existing Project:

Follow these steps to label the geo-zone an existing project:

  1. A list of existing projects are available to select.

  2. Use the search box or scroll to find the project name.

  3. Select the Project Name.

  4. A confirmation screen will appear asking “Add this newly-created polygon to the existing project, (project name).

  5. Click Add To (Project Name).

  6. The popup window will close and the new geo-zone will display the name of the project.


New Project:

Follow these steps to label the geozone with creating a new project:

  1. Select Add To New Project.

  2. Enter the Project Name: This will appear on shifts, geo-zones, and productivity reports.

  3. Enter a Project Number: Used to link Scale Tickets, Job Costs, and Virtual Shift Tickets.

  4. Select the Project Type: Indicates the type of work being performed. Virtual Shift Ticket rulesets are determined by the selected Project Type.

  5. Set the Timezone: Reflects the local time at the jobsite.

  6. Set Display Status: Choose Active to make the project operational.

  7. Click Save Project: Finalize the project setup.


The geo-zone will display on the map with the name of the Project in the center.


New Map Pin:

Create a new Map Pin in this location. Can customize the note and color of this pin.

  1. Right click on the Map.

  2. Select New Map Pin

  3. A popup window will display allowing you to enter a note, choose the color, click Save to complete.

  4. The pin will display.


Edit or Delete Pin:

To edit or delete the pin;

  1. Click on the Pin to display the details.

  2. Click on the location icon to the left of the X

  3. The edit window will open.

    1. Edit the note and color, then click save.

    2. Click Delete to remove the flag from the Map. A popup will appear confirming you want to delete the pin.


Change Geozone Shape:

If a geo-zone is too small to capture all work activity or is affected by GPS drift, you can use the Change Shape feature to adjust its size. Expanding the geo-zone ensures accurate tracking of all relevant activity and compensates for any GPS drift.

The following steps will help you adjust the shape of the geo-zone.

How do I change the shape of a geozone?

  1. Right click inside the geo-zone and select Change Shape.

  2. Left click on the white circles to make adjustments.

    • Click the Undo button to undo the last adjustment.

  3. Save the changes by clicking inside the geo-zone.


Delete Geozone:

Managing Geo-zones: Deleting a geo-zone from the map removes its connection to the project details. To retain historical data, users should mark the project as "inactive."

This hides the geo-zone from the map but keeps the data. If the project is reactivated, the geo-zone will already be drawn and ready to use again.

The following steps will delete the geo-zone from the Map view.

  1. Right click inside the geo-zone to open the options window.

  2. Click Delete (Geozone) Polygon.

  3. A warning confirmation box will appear.

    1. “Delete this (geozone) polygon for project (project name)? This cannot be undone. Deleting this means there is no remaining location data for this project.”

  4. Click Delete and the geo-zone will be removed from the Map.

Edit Project Details:

Users can edit or update project details from either the Map or the Projects page.

Warning: Changing the project name or number will disconnect existing data from the original project.

Follow these steps to edit or update project details:

  1. Navigate to the geo-zone you would like to edit.

  2. Left click inside the geo-zone to open the edit window.

  3. Update details.

  4. Click Save Project to save the changes or click Cancel Edits to close the edit window.
