Understanding the Project Page

Get to know the layout, buttons, and tools available on the Projects page in FleetWatcher.

Introduction

A Project represents a specific job or worksite where resources, tasks, and equipment are coordinated to complete a defined scope of work. It serves as a central hub for tracking progress, managing schedules, assigning resources, and monitoring costs.

In FleetWatcher, Projects also serve key system functions: they define geo-zones on the map, and for MMS customers, the Project Number is used to link incoming scale tickets to corresponding Shifts and Virtual Shift Tickets (VSTs).

The Projects page is where you can view, create, and manage all your projects. This article explains each section of the page, what every button does, and how to use the interface to manage project data effectively.

To access this feature:

Go to: Manage > Projects > Projects.

Page Controls and Project Actions

This section explains the key buttons used to manage projects from the main page.

🔘 Page-Level Controls (Top of the Page)

Located above the project list, these buttons help with creating and organizing your data:

  • ➕ New – Opens a blank project form in a slide-out panel to create a new project.

  • Project Types – Opens the Project Types popup where you can view, create, or edit custom project types.

  • Clear Type Filter – Removes any active project type filters and refreshes the list of projects.

💡 Tip: If you don’t see a project you're expecting, click Clear Type Filter to show all available projects.

🛠 Row-Level Action Icons (Left Side of Each Project)

Each project row includes action icons on the left side. These allow you to manage individual projects:

  • View Project – Opens the project detail panel so you can review all project settings.

  • Edit Project – Opens the project form for updates. If the project includes a geo-zone, you’ll also see a Show Map button.

  • Deactivate Project – Removes the geo-zone from the map and unassigns all equipment. Historical data is preserved and the project can be reactivated at any time.

Toolbar Options (Top Right)

The top-right section of the Projects page includes several tools to help you manage and export your project data:

Search

  • Use the search bar to find projects by Project Name or Project Number.

  • Supports partial matches (e.g., typing "123" will return “1234 paving”).

Show/Hide Filters

  • Click the funnel icon to display or hide the filter row at the top of the project list.

  • Useful for applying multiple filters such as Project Type, Foreman, or Timezone.

Show/Hide Columns

  • Click the grid icon to customize which columns appear in the project list.

  • Use checkboxes to show or hide data fields like Project Manager, Other 1/2, or Timezone.

Export PDF

  • Click the PDF icon to generate a formatted PDF of the current project list view.

  • Respects any filters you’ve applied.

Export CSV

  • Click the CSV icon to export project data in spreadsheet format.

  • Ideal for bulk reviews or uploading to other systems.

  • Also respects applied filters and column visibility.

💡 Tip: If you're preparing reports for management or auditing project setup, exporting a filtered CSV is often the best option.

Active or Inactive:

Note: A checkbox labeled Active and Inactive appears in the bottom right corner of the screen. The default is set to Active. Use this to filter for active or inactive projects.

Project Detail Panel

When you view or edit a project, a panel slides out on the right side of the screen. This includes three tabs:

  • Details – All core project fields.

  • Change Log – Click the down caret to expand a full list of recent changes to the project.

  • Access Audit – View who accessed or modified the project and when.

To close the panel, click the right arrow at the top right corner.

Edit Project Panel

When you click the Edit (pencil icon) on a project, a panel will slide out from the right side of the screen. This panel looks similar to the view panel but allows you to update project information.

Key features of the Edit Project panel include:

  • All Fields Editable – You can update names, numbers, contact roles, project type, and more.

  • Geo-Zone Visibility – If the project includes a geo-zone, you’ll see a Show Map button to view it in context.

  • Save or Cancel – Use the buttons at the bottom of the panel:

    • Save Project to apply your changes.

    • Cancel Edits to close the panel without saving.

🔔 Important: Editing a project does not affect the geo-zone or assigned equipment unless you specifically make those changes.

Use This Page To:

  • Review and manage project information and geo-zones

  • Create new projects and assign them to a company

  • Edit project details like name, number, type, and contacts

  • Deactivate a project to hide its geo-zone and unassign equipment

  • Filter for Inactive projects to find jobs that are no longer active

  • View the Change Log to see recent updates

  • Use the Access Audit tab to track user interactions with a project

  • Understand which equipment was automatically unassigned after deactivation (viewable on the Move Equipment page)

Additional Features on the Main Projects Page

Inactive Projects Filter

  • Located under the chatbot icon (black circle) is a checkbox labeled Inactive.

  • When checked, this displays all deactivated projects.

  • Useful for reactivating old jobs or reviewing historical project details.

📝 Fin Tip: Customers may ask, "Where did my project go?" — and this is often because it was set to Inactive. Point them to this checkbox.

Search and Sort

  • The project list can typically be filtered or searched by project name or number.

  • If available, column sorting or filtering helps users find active or high-priority projects quickly.

(Note: If these controls exist but weren’t in the documentation, let me know and I’ll confirm placement with you.)

Automatic Unassignment of Equipment on Deactivation

  • When a project is deactivated, all equipment currently assigned to that project is automatically moved to “Unassigned.”

  • A pop-up alert will inform users of the number of pieces affected.

  • This is logged and visible on the Move Equipment page, including the date and time of unassignment.

Change Log and Access Audit Panels (Expanded Detail)

These tabs are accessible when viewing a project and can help users:

  • Change Log – Track who made changes, when they were made, and what fields were updated.

  • Access Audit – See a history of who has viewed or interacted with the project.

Customers rarely use these unless shown — but they’re invaluable for troubleshooting or validating project history.
