Material to Finish Tool

Use the Material to Finish tool to estimate how much material and how many loads are needed to complete the shift.

Introduction

The Material to Finish tool is part of the Mainline Paving Calculator and helps you project how much asphalt is needed to finish a paving shift. Based on the current paving trend, it calculates the remaining distance, tons required, and truckloads still needed — all in real time.

Navigation

To access this feature:

Go to: MMS > Shifts > Today’s Shifts

  • Locate a shift with the Mainline Paving Calculator enabled

  • Click the Material to Finish button in the MPC popup

Requires a paver set as the Destination and scale integration

What It Calculates

  • Remaining Distance (ft.)

  • Remaining Tons Needed

  • Number of Truck Loads Remaining

  • Live projection based on current paving speed and depth

Adjusting the Hopper % Full

To improve accuracy, use the Hopper % Full slider:

  • This represents how full the paver’s hopper is after the most recent dump

  • FleetWatcher subtracts this amount from total tons dumped to estimate how much is already in the mat

  • Example: If the paver holds 18 tons and is 50% full, 9 tons are in the hopper and the rest in the mat

Optional: Estimate by End Time

If you know what time paving will stop:

  1. Enter your planned stop time

  2. The system will calculate how much distance can be paved by then at the current Feet per Minute (FpM)

  3. It will update the estimated remaining loads accordingly

Notes

  • This tool is only available during active shifts

  • Requires at least five scaled dumps to calculate yield trends

  • Final values do not appear on Completed Shifts — use the MPC report instead
