Edit an Active Shift (MMS or CMS)

What can be updated on an active shift — including timing, contacts, KPI targets, and measurement units for both MMS and CMS shift types.

Introduction:

Once a shift is activated, many of its details can still be edited to reflect real-time changes. Whether you’re adjusting crew contacts, updating KPI targets, or switching to cubic yards, this article shows what’s editable on live MMS and CMS shifts — and what’s not.

Navigation:

To edit an active shift:

Go to: MMS > Shifts > Today’s Shifts

Click the gray (edit) link next to the Project name on the shift card.

This opens the Update a Shift window.

MMS vs. CMS Differences

MMS Shift Example

  • Uses Tons as the default unit

  • Can set up and toggle Mainline Paving Calculator (MPC)

  • Designed for paving, milling, or material haul jobs

If a paver is selected as the Destination, MPC can be enabled to track yield in real time.

CMS Shift Example

  • Can be tracked in Tons, Cubic Yards, or both

  • Supports volume-based KPIs: Yards/hour, Cost/Yard

  • Common for excavation or material movement inside a jobsite

The Mainline Paving Calculator toggle may appear here, but it does not apply to CMS shifts.

MPC is only functional for mainline paving jobs using MMS shifts with a paver as the Destination.

What You Can’t Edit on a Live Shift

Not Editable

Reason

Shift Date

Set when the shift was scheduled or created

Project or Project Number

Used to tie in scale tickets and reporting

Assigned trucks or dispatch settings

Must be updated in Dispatch or Fleet Assignment tools

Ticket History

Scale ticket data is read-only once received

Notes & Tips

  • Changes apply only to the current shift instance

  • KPI target edits carry forward to future shifts (if not already activated)

  • MPC should only be enabled on paving shifts with scale integration and a paver selected

  • Use Change Log to audit who made edits and when
