Shift KPIs Overview

Understand how FleetWatcher calculates shift KPIs and where to view performance metrics.

Introduction

FleetWatcher tracks real-time and historical job performance using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). This article explains how KPIs work, how they’re calculated, and where to view them during and after a shift.

Navigation

KPIs are visible in multiple places:

  • Today’s Shifts – Real-time tracking for active shifts

  • Completed Shifts – Finalized performance data

  • Shift Editor Popups – Enter or adjust KPI targets

  • Scoreboards and Reports – Advanced benchmarking and analysis

Use This Report To:

  • Track first load and first dump timing

  • Monitor shift productivity in tons per hour

  • Understand trucking efficiency and cost

  • Compare crew vs. truck performance

  • View real-time metrics during active shifts

Core KPIs Defined

KPI

Description

Tons per Hour (TpH) – Crew

Average tons dumped from Shift Start to current time (or Shift End)

Tons per Hour (TpH) – Truck

Average tons dumped per truck from First Load to Last Dump

Trucking Cost per Ton (TCpT)

Cost per ton based on truck hours and total tonnage

First Load / First Dump

Timestamp-based KPIs tracking when work began

Cycle Time

Average round-trip time from load to dump

Feet per Minute (FpM)

Paving speed based on paver movement (mainline paving only)

KPI Targets

KPI Targets can be set:

  • During shift creation (What section)

  • In the popup when activating from Scheduled Shifts

  • Using the Edit option on an active shift

If a KPI target is changed, the new value carries forward to the next shift activated in that job sequence.

Viewing KPI Definitions

On any shift card (Today’s or Completed):

  • Look for the blue info icon (ⓘ) in the bottom-right corner of the card, near the KPI metrics

  • Click the icon to open a popup explaining each KPI in detail

This is the fastest way to learn what a KPI means without leaving the shift view.

Color Coding

Color

Meaning

🟢 Green

Target is met or exceeded

🟡 Yellow

Performance is close to target

🔴 Red

Target was missed

KPI thresholds are configured in MMS Controls

Notes

  • KPIs update in real time for scale-integrated customers

  • At Source, At Destination, and Cycle Time KPIs are also calculated and shown for shifts that are not scale-integrated (fully unscaled shifts), as long as there is enough geozone and movement data for the shift

  • Shifts must have accurate Source, Destination, and timing to calculate properly

  • CMS shifts support both tons and cubic yards if configured with default load values
