Shift Card details explained.

Shift Card Details:

Each Shift Card represents an active shift on Today’s Shifts page. In the example below you will see three common shift types. The first shift is a DOT paving shift. The second shift is a standard paving shift. The third shift is a standard CMS shift.

Looking at the top section of the shift card:

  • Date and Time: Displays the current date and the scheduled shift time

  • DOT ICON: This icon will appear when the Project and Shift have the DOT checkbox selected.

  • Job Name / Shift Name: Job Name in Add/Edit Shifts, and Shift Name when you edit the shift.

  • Foreman & Superintendent Names Listed: Foreman and/or Superintendent selected for the shift or project.

    • The Foreman and Superintendent names are displayed across multiple shift tracking features, including Today’s Shift and Completed Shift cards, the LCA sidebar for Today’s Shifts, and the Executive and Realtime Scoreboards.

    • Note: The Executive Scoreboard always reflects the Foreman and Superintendent listed in the main shift record (Add/Edit Shifts). However, all other screens display the Foreman and Superintendent assigned to the specific shift instance, which may differ from the original record.

    • For example, if Shift A is scheduled for a week with Joe as Foreman and Jane as Superintendent, but Joe is replaced by Harry on Tuesday, the Executive Scoreboard will still show Joe and Jane, while the Today’s Shifts view will display Harry and Jane for that day.

  • Trucks Ordered: The number of trucks dispatched for the shift.


Shift Card parameters.
  • The Project, Project Number, Source, and Destination fields reflect the selections made when creating a shift.

  • For scale-integrated customers, Total Loads Shipped and Total Tons Shipped are automatically calculated when a scale ticket is issued with a matching project number. For non-scale-integrated customers, the Material Type field allows manual entry of the material used.

  • Phase Codes provide an additional level of tonnage separation beyond the project number and can be assigned at either the shift or project level.

  • Shift Notes: The Shift Note feature allows users to document important shift activities, such as delays, equipment malfunctions, late trucks, or asphalt plant shutdowns. This helps keep everyone informed, from project managers to on-site foremen, ensuring better communication and job awareness.

    • Adding Shift Notes: Click the grey Add button to enter a new note. If the button says View, a note has already been added. Click View to read existing notes and add additional details as needed.

    • When adding or editing shift notes in Today’s Shifts, Completed Shifts, or an LCA, users are notified if another user is making changes to the same note. To prevent conflicts, only one user can edit a note at a time. Once the first user saves their changes, the field becomes available for others to update.

  • When the Mainline Paving Calculator is enabled, Paver Width and Target Depth settings come from the MMS Controls page. If displayed as Default (red), FleetWatcher is using system defaults. If displayed as Confirmed (green), the settings have been updated at the shift level.


MMS Shift Compass:

The FleetWatcher MMS Shift Compass tracks the total number of trucks equipped with a FleetWatcher device. The center number represents the total trucks meeting shift requirements, while S (Source) and D (Destination) mark key locations. Arrows at the top and bottom indicate trucks traveling to the destination or back to the source. Trucks appear on the compass if they receive a scale ticket with a matching project number or complete the Source-Destination cycle.

CMS Shift Compass:

Similar to the Shift Compass for MMS Shifts, CMS Shift Cards now display the number of equipment pieces at the Source (S) and Not at the Source (N/S). Since CMS Shifts often lack defined Destinations—or equipment spends too little time at the Destination to register—these Shift Cards focus solely on tracking equipment at or away from the Source.

MMS and CSM Compass.

Tracked, Untracked, Total, Unscaled:

  • The Trucks, Loads, and Tons are broken down into Tracked, Untracked, and Total amounts for each shift. In the same table. The Unscaled trucks and load counts are included, but no tonnage is captured.

  • The asterisk displayed next to the Unscaled Tons figure indicates that the tonnage is assumed and summed using the Equipment Type tonnage capacity as entered in the Custom Equipment Type Default Load UST: field on the Add/Edit Custom Equipment Type screen.

FleetWatcher categorizes assets based on tracking and shift data:

  • Tracked assets have a FleetWatcher device coupled and have received a scale ticket matching the project number.

  • Untracked assets lack a FleetWatcher device but have received a matching scale ticket.

  • Unscaled assets do not have a FleetWatcher device or a scale ticket but still meet shift requirements by completing a cycle.


What does it mean if a truck is both Tracked and Unscaled?

It's possible for the same truck to count as both Tracked and Unscaled on a shift card. This can happen if the truck has a FleetWatcher device and completes extra cycles that don't get matched to a scale ticket.

When this happens, you'll see an asterisked (*) count next to the Unscaled number. Hover over or tap the asterisk to see a list of which trucks are counted more than once.

To keep totals accurate, the estimated tonnage for these repeat trucks is not added to the Unscaled tons total, so tonnage isn't counted twice.


What does "also had scaled loads" mean on my shift card?

On your shift card, you may notice a column for Unscaled Loads — these are loads where the truck was not weighed on a scale, so the tonnage is an estimate.

Sometimes, a truck will make both scaled and unscaled loads in the same shift. When that happens, the system flags it with an asterisk (*) and shows a tooltip that says "also had scaled loads – est. tonnage not counted."

This means:

  • That truck made at least one load that was weighed on a scale, and at least one that wasn't.

  • The estimated tonnage for the unscaled load is not added to your totals — this is intentional, to avoid counting that truck's tonnage twice.

  • You'll see 0.00 * in the tons column as a result.

This is expected behavior, not an error. The asterisk and tooltip are there to be transparent about why the tonnage looks the way it does.


MMS Shift Card Actions:

On the right side of the shift card, you’ll find actionable links specific to the shift. The LCA Graph and Map View (Note: CMS Shifts do not have a Map view) open in a new browser window, while Scale Ticket and Dispatch open a popup with details or links for further information. Ending a shift with truck activity moves it to Completed Shifts, while Deactivating a shift removes it from Today’s Shifts without appearing in Completed Shifts. The Mainline Paving Calculator (MPC) is designed for mainline paving shifts with a paver as the destination. It provides real-time calculations to ensure the mat is laid correctly within specifications for width, weight, and depth, helping managers and foremen make necessary adjustments for optimal efficiency and quality. CMS Shift Card Actions:

On the right side of the shift card, you’ll find actionable links specific to the shift. Ending a shift with truck activity moves it to Completed Shifts, while Deactivating a shift removes it from Today’s Shifts without appearing in Completed Shifts.

(Note: CMS Shifts do not have a Map view)


  • Shift % Complete: Indicates the percentage completed (as of the current time during the shift) with a completion. As the shift continues, the bar fills in with blue to indicate the shift’s progress. Today’s Shifts only.

  • Estimated Tons: Enter the estimated tons you expected to ship during the shift.

  • At Source/At Dest Report: Click here to open the At Source/ At Dest Report report.

  • First Ticket: Shows a summary of details for the first Scale Ticket issued for the shift. The details include the Scale Asset Name(or Alias Name) of the Truck (Equipment), the time the Scale Ticket was issued, the tonnage amount for the load, and the material.

  • First Load: Indicates the time of the first load, which is equivalent to the time the first scale ticket was issued. The target for this KPI is set on the Shift.

  • First Dump: Indicates the time of the first dump, which is equivalent to the earliest time a truck leaves the destination (inner-radius when a paver is set as the destination). The target for this KPI is set on the Shift.

The green/yellow/red shading obeys the KPI Threshold Settings for the first load/dump lower and upper thresholds on the MDS Controls screen.

  • For example, if the threshold settings are (and these are the defaults):

    • First Load Lower Threshold = 10 minutes.

    • First Load Upper Threshold = 30 minutes.

    • First Dump Lower Threshold = 10 minutes.

    • First Dump Upper Threshold = 30 minutes.

These are the resulting color shades based on the targets set:

  • If load or dump is early (no matter how early) or up to 9 minutes (9:59) late, it’s shaded green.

  • If it occurs from 10 minutes to 29 minutes (29:59) late, it’s shaded yellow.

  • If it occurs 30 minutes late or more, it’s shaded red.


Shift KPIs:

  • Tons per Hour (TpH) - Crew: Measures the (average) number of tons dumped per hour from Shift Start to the current time (Active Shift) OR Shift End (Completed Shift). The target for this KPI is set on the Shift.

  • Tons per Hour (TpH) - Truck: Measures the (average) number of tons dumped per hour from first load to latest dump (Active Shift) OR last dump (Completed Shift). The target for this KPI is set on the Shift.

  • Last Hour: Last Hour measures the tonnage dumped within the last 60 minutes (current time - 60 minutes). For example, if the current time: 4:04 PM and dumps have occurred at 8:32 AM, 9:13 AM, 10:23 AM, 2:58 PM, 3:24 PM, 3:48 PM, and 4:03 PM, the Last Hour will include the tonnage total for the three dumps occurring between 3:04 PM and 4:04 PM.

    • Note: This is different from the Tons per Hour (TpH) - Crew and Tons per Hour (TpH) - Truck KPIs which measure the average tonnage per hour as of the shift start time until the current time. See above.

  • Feet per Minute (FpM): Measures the distance traveled per minute by the paver (Destination) designated on the shift.

    • This KPI provides an Explain This button on the Shift Card that provides details about how the actual FpM for the specific shift was calculated.

      • This control is available from the Executive Scoreboard and the Real-Time Scoreboard when clicking on a specific shift to open the Shift Card.

    • A Set FpM Target button is provided on the Shift Card if the FpM Target was not previously set for the shift. Simply click, enter a target for the KPI, and click the check-mark.

      • This control is available on the Real-Time Scoreboard when clicking on a specific shift to open the Shift Card. KPI targets can't be set for completed (past) shifts.

  • Note: When the paver is not moving (0 mph) or repositioning, the Paver is assumed to not be paving. Pavers are considered repositioning when moving at speeds above a normal paving speed. This is either the default 100 FpM or the FpM Non-Paving Threshold setting (see Add/Edit Equipment) for the Paver. To be clear, when the paver stops or is repositioned, the time and paver movement (distance) is NOT included in FpM calculations.Cycle [Time]: The average cycle time (load to load), in decimal minutes, across all trucks, Scale Ticket to Scale Ticket. The final cycle of the day, where there is not a subsequent Scale Ticket, is calculated from the last Scale Ticket to the recorded Dump Time +/- the Clockout Offset (See MMS Controls). The target for this KPI is set on the Shift.

    • If a truck works more than a single shift during the day or night (i.e. they receive a scale ticket for a different job or simply visit a different source or destination), the truck's cycle time is calculated by adding a partial cycle to the shift left for another job (considering current Clock-In and Clock-Out settings). Cycle time doesn't consider source or destination, just that an assigned scale ticket matches a shift.

  • At Source Time: The average of all the time, in decimal minutes, Trucks spent waiting at the Source before being loaded. The Target is set in MMS Controls and applies to all Shifts.

  • At Dest Time: The average of all the time, in decimal minutes, Trucks spent waiting at the Destination before dumping the load. The Target is set in MMS Controls and applies to all Shifts.

  • Trucking Cost per Ton (TCpT): Measures your total trucking cost against the total tonnage put down from Shift Start to current time (Active Shift) OR Shift End (Completed Shift). The target for this KPI is set on the Shift.

Material: Scale Integrated customers will see a list of all material used on the shift.

Tons Per Hour: This graph shows the number of tons shipped per hour. Hover over each hour to view the tonnage during that hour.

Average Hourly Feet per Minute: Feet per Minute details only appear when a paver is set as the destination. Hover the mouse over each hour for more details.

Edit Shift:

Edit live shifts by clicking on the word Edit on the shift card. This will open a popup window that will allow you to make changes to the shift.

NOTE: Any changes made to Today's shifts only affect Today's Shift.

Not On Shift:

The Compass feature on the Shift Card displays only trucks actively working the shift. For example, if 10 trucks start Shift ABC, the Compass and LCA Graph will show all 10. If 3 trucks switch to another shift or perform non-shift work at noon, the Compass will update to 7 trucks, while the LCA will still list all 10, marking the 3 as "Not On Shift."

How assets move between shifts:

  • A truck leaves Shift 1 for Shift 2 when it receives a scale ticket for Shift 2.

  • A truck moves to Shift 2 after completing a full cycle with its Source-Destination requirements.

  • If a truck doesn’t meet another shift’s requirements, it remains on the Compass and LCA until the end of the day.

  • Trucks that leave and later return will be recounted on the Compass and marked on-shift in the LCA.

Note: These counts do not include Untracked Trucks.


Shift Reprocess

What It Does

Reprocess: Triggers a recalculation of all data for a selected shift (or multiple shifts running during the same time period).

Reprocess Packets from the Beginning of the Shift:

  • When enabled, this option reprocesses data starting from the shift’s original start time

  • Used when edits are made to driver assignments, materials, or other tracked data during the shift


🧾 How to Reprocess a Shift

  1. Go to the Today's Shifts page

  2. Locate the shift you want to reprocess

  3. Click the word Edit to the right of the Project name on the Shift Card

  4. The Update A Shift popup window will appear

  5. Scroll to the bottom of the popup

  6. Check the box labeled Reprocess packets from the beginning of the shift (just above the Change Log box)

  7. Click Save Changes

  8. A confirmation window will appear — click OK

  9. After saving, a yellow reprocessing icon (a yellow circle with an exclamation mark) will appear in the upper right corner of the page


Important Behavior Notes

  • All concurrent shifts are also reprocessed
    If a shift is selected for reprocessing (e.g., ABC Paving on 11/1/2019 from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM), then any other active shifts overlapping that time window will also be reprocessed, even if they belong to different companies or job sites.

  • Reprocessing does not affect other dates
    Reprocessing a shift on one date will not reprocess earlier or later shifts from that same project or crew. To include those, select each shift date individually, check the Reprocess box, and click Save.

  • Only one Shift Reprocess can run at a time
    The system will only process one shift reprocess at a time, regardless of how many are selected. However, the Informative Reprocess Banner may still appear briefly even after the task has completed.


System Behavior Tip

In some cases, a new reprocess may be allowed while the Reprocess Banner is still visible. This can happen if the backend process completes before the banner expires. The system will still display the correct User and Date/Time of the active reprocess in the Info icon.
