Introduction
The Shift Compass is a visual tracking tool that shows how many trucks (or equipment) are actively working on a shift — and where they are in the cycle. It appears on all active shift cards in Today’s Shifts, and updates in real time as trucks move between the Source and Destination.
Compass behavior is slightly different for MMS (Material Management) and CMS (Construction Management) shifts.
Navigation
To view the compass:
Go to: MMS > Shifts > Today’s Shifts
Look for the compass icon on any active shift card
Compass Layout (MMS Shifts)
For standard paving, milling, or material haul jobs:
Area | What It Shows |
S (left side) | Trucks currently at the Source |
↑ (top) | Trucks traveling from Source to Destination |
D (right side) | Trucks currently at the Destination |
↓ (bottom) | Trucks returning to the Source |
Center number | Total trucks assigned and on-shift |
Trucks appear here if they:
Match the shift’s Project
Meet Source/Destination geozone requirements
Have received scale tickets (for scale-integrated customers)
Compass Layout (CMS Shifts)
For internal project movements with a defined Source but no Destination:
Area | What It Shows |
S (left side) | Equipment currently at the Source (e.g., excavator) |
N/S (right side) | Equipment Not at the Source — i.e., currently out working in the project area |
Center number | Total tracked equipment on the shift |
Used to verify whether equipment is cycling efficiently or idle
CMS Compass does not show directional movement between geo-zones
Notes
Only FleetWatcher-equipped assets appear in the Compass
Assets that leave a shift and join another will disappear from the Compass but remain in the LCA graph
Compass updates live — no need to refresh the page
If a truck switches jobs mid-shift, it will reappear on the Compass if it returns and completes a full Source-Destination cycle
