FleetWatcher Mobile App: Locator Overview

Locate and manage equipment and BLE Assets directly from the FleetWatcher mobile app.

Introduction

The Locator feature helps field users locate equipment and BLE Assets in real time. Users can search, filter, sort, and view assets on a live map, and perform actions like navigation, calling drivers, viewing maintenance records, or finding nearby BLE Assets.

Navigation

To access the Locator:

Go to: FleetWatcher Home Screen > Tap Locator

Landing Page Overview

  • The Locator page shows a list of all equipment and BLE Assets the user has access to.

  • Use the Search bar to find assets by name or ID.

  • Tap the Filter icon (three stacked lines) to:

    • Filter by Equipment Type or Project

    • Sort by Location, Last Transmitted, or Asset Name

    • Sort Order: Ascending or Descending

  • If “Save Locator Filters” is enabled in App Options, the "Sort By" selection will be saved.

Interacting with Assets

  • Tap an asset to open its location on the map.

  • Long Press an asset to access quick actions:

    • Call the driver (if a phone number is available)

    • View Maintenance history

    • Get Directions to the asset

Viewing Equipment on the Map

When you tap an asset:

  • The map centers on the asset.

  • A detail card displays information like:

    • Asset Name

    • Equipment Type

    • Last Update (Heartbeat)

    • Speed, Heading, Odometer, Hour Meter

    • Mobile Number (if assigned)

    • Assigned Project

Available Actions:

  • Navigate: Open directions to the asset in Apple Maps or Google Maps.

  • Call Driver: Tap to call the driver's listed phone number.

  • Maintenance: View maintenance history or add a new maintenance record.

Staying Up to Date:

  • The Locator screen updates the equipment's location and last-update time automatically about every 60 seconds. You do not need to leave the screen and come back to see the latest position.

  • When you select one truck to track, the map keeps following that truck as it moves. You don't need to re-select it or re-center the map yourself.

Maintenance Records

  • Tap Maintenance to see service history.

  • Tap an existing record to view or edit it.

  • Tap the Plus (+) icon to create a new maintenance record.

This is useful for mechanics performing field service — they can call the driver, navigate to the asset, complete maintenance, and document it all inside the app.

Locator Map Animation

  • When you tap on a piece of equipment, the app animates by rotating the asset and surrounding area after about 5 seconds.

  • Tap Stop to end the animation manually.

  • Pinch to zoom in/out on the map.

  • Animation can be turned off in App Options (Home Screen > 3 Dots Menu > App Options).

BLE Asset Specific Features

Find BLE Asset (BLE Assets Only)

  • Tap Find BLE Asset when viewing a BLE Asset.

  • A pop-up will confirm the beacon ID.

  • Tap Scan to search for the beacon.

  • Bluetooth scanning will show proximity status:

    • Immediate – Very close proximity

    • Near – Within range, but not right beside you

    • Far – In range but farther away

    • Unknown – Beacon not detected (may be out of range or beacon is off)

Bluetooth Range Note:

Bluetooth scanning range for beacons is about 30 feet.

Signals can vary based on obstacles or interference.

Understanding Equipment Icons

  • Directional Halos:

    • Green Halo: Asset is moving faster than 2 mph (shows direction).

    • Red Halo: Asset is stopped or moving slower than 2 mph.

  • Note: Off-road equipment often moves below 2 mph. Movement status should be verified using GPS Transmission Activity or Productivity Reports.

  • Loaded vs Unloaded Icons (Haul Trucks):

    • Full Bed Icon: Truck is loaded.

    • Empty Bed Icon: Truck is unloaded.
