Overview
The Camera Settings page controls how your fleet's cameras behave, from basic hardware settings like speaker volume to how sensitive each camera is to things like harsh braking or driver fatigue. Use this page to fine-tune your camera system to fit your fleet.
Navigation:
Go to: Cameras > Settings
From the top navigation menu, click Cameras, then click Settings from the left side navigation.
Understanding Vehicle Weight Classes (Light, Medium, Heavy) in Camera Settings
On the Camera Settings page, configuration options are divided into three distinct Vehicle Weight Classes: Light, Medium, and Heavy.
What They Represent
Because different types of vehicles have vastly different sizes, braking distances, turning dynamics, and suspension behaviors, a single g-force or motion threshold cannot accurately detect safety events across an entire fleet.
Dividing camera settings into Light, Medium, and Heavy allows administrators to customize event sensitivity thresholds (e.g., hard braking, rapid acceleration, harsh turning, impact detection) and recording options for each category of equipment in their fleet.
Classification Breakdown
Vehicle Class | Vehicle Types Included | Behavior & Sensitivity Purpose |
Light | Passenger vehicles, sedans, SUVs, and light-duty pickup trucks (e.g., F-150 / 1500 series). | Optimized for smaller vehicles that accelerate, brake, and maneuver quickly without false triggers. |
Medium | Medium-duty commercial trucks, flatbeds, box trucks, service trucks, and utility vehicles (e.g., F-550, Class 4–6 trucks). | Calibrated for mid-tier commercial vehicles with stiffer suspensions and moderate load capacities. |
Heavy | Heavy-duty commercial trucks and construction equipment (e.g., Class 7–8 dump trucks, haulers, lowboys, concrete mixers, tractor-trailers). | Tailored for large, heavy-mass equipment that naturally produces greater road vibration, slower stopping distances, and higher inertia. |
How FleetWatcher Assigns Equipment to These Settings
Each piece of equipment in FleetWatcher inherits its camera settings based on the Weight Class assigned to its Equipment Type (configured under Add/Edit Custom Equipment Type in FleetWatcher admin settings).
When a dashcam is installed in a vehicle, it automatically applies the event detection profile and sensitivity thresholds defined for that vehicle's assigned weight class (Light, Medium, or Heavy).
Saving My Settings
Tip: Remember to click Save after making adjustments to each setting before moving on to the next one, even when navigating between vehicle weight classes (Light, Medium, and Heavy).
System:
Adjust Device: Volume (the loudness of in-cabin alerts).
Parking Photo: (which cameras take a still image when the vehicle is parked: All, Road Facing, or Off).
Video Recording:
Turn Record Sound on or off (captures cabin audio), and turn Video Snapshots on or off (captures still images alongside video).
Video Recording Sub-Tab
Record Sound: When enabled, the camera captures audio inside the cabin.
Video Snapshots: When enabled, the system captures periodic still images alongside standard video.
Each category below can be toggled On/Off via the red switch. Use the Light/Medium/Heavy buttons at the top of the Events tab to apply pre-configured sensitivity levels across all triggers.
Impact
Sensitivity: Separate sliders for Driving Impact and Parking Impact. Higher sensitivity triggers alerts for minor bumps; lower sensitivity requires a significant G-force event.
Event Recording:
Pre-Event Duration: Number of seconds recorded before the impact is detected.
Post-Event Duration: Number of seconds recorded after the impact.
Alerts: Toggle for In-cabin Audio Alert to notify the driver immediately upon impact detection.
Harsh Driving
Sensitivity: Detailed KPH thresholds for three types of movement:
Harsh Acceleration
Harsh Braking
Harsh Cornering
Event Recording: Adjustable Pre-event and Post-event timers to capture the context of the maneuver.
Alerts: Toggle for In-cabin Audio Alert.
Sleepy (Eye Close) / Fatigue
Sensitivity: Adjusts how quickly the AI identifies signs of driver drowsiness or closed eyes.
Auto Upload to Portal: Choose whether the system sends a Video clip or a Snapshot to the dashboard when fatigue is detected.
Alerts: Toggle for In-cabin Audio Alert (crucial for waking/alerting a fatigued driver).
Distracted
Sensitivity: Adjusts the threshold for when the AI determines the driver is looking away from the road (e.g., at a phone or side window).
Event Recording: Sets the clip length for the distraction event.
Alerts: Toggle for In-cabin Audio Alert.
Seat Belt Unfastened
Sensitivity: AI threshold for recognizing the seat belt position.
Auto Upload to Portal: Determines if a Video or Snapshot of the violation is sent to the manager.
Alerts: Toggle for In-cabin Audio Alert.
Speed Sign Violation
Speed Threshold: Define the KPH/MPH limit (e.g., above 10 kph / 6.2 mph).
Auto Upload: Select upload type based on severity (Minor, Moderate, Major).
Alerts: Toggle alerts for Approaching a traffic sign versus Violating the signal.
Rolling Stop
Event Recording: Capture the approach and the failure to stop.
Auto Upload: Choose Video or Snapshot.
Alerts: Toggle for In-cabin Audio Alert for signal violations.
How to Apply Changes
Select a Profile: Click Light, Medium, or Heavy to instantly update all sensitivity and recording durations to recommended levels.
Manual Override: You can still manually move any slider or change any timer after selecting a profile.
Save: You must click the Save button in the top right corner to push these settings to the cameras in your fleet.
Notes
Light, Medium, and Heavy match the same terminology used for Custom Equipment Type elsewhere in FleetWatcher.
