Introduction
If you see a message saying “Driver works best with Location Services turned on” when trying to start operating, it means your Location Services settings need to be updated.
This is one of several potential issues drivers might encounter while using the FleetWatcher Driver App.
This guide will show you how to quickly update your Location settings so you can start operating without interruptions.
When You Might See This:
After tapping Start Operating or Return to a truck in the Driver App.
If Location Services were not allowed during app setup.
If Location Services were later disabled in your iPhone settings.
On Android devices, if battery optimization settings restrict the Driver App.
How to Fix It:
On the warning popup, tap Turn On in Settings.
You’ll be taken to the Driver App Settings screen.
Tap Location to open the Location Access settings.
Set Location Access to Always.
Make sure Precise Location is turned ON.
Tap Driver in the upper-left corner (next to the back arrow ➔) to return to the Driver App.
Back in the Driver App, tap Start Operating or Return to again.
You should now be able to operate without any issues.
This step is part of a broader troubleshooting workflow to ensure the app functions correctly.
Why “Always” Location Access is Required for the Driver App
To ensure accurate and uninterrupted tracking, the Driver App’s location access must be set to “Always.”
If location access is not set to “Always,” the app may stop sending updates when:
The driver exits the app,
The phone screen goes idle or locks,
The app is running in the background.
Setting location access to Always allows the app to continue tracking in the background, even when the app is not actively open on the screen.
On Android devices, disabling battery optimization for the Driver App is also recommended to ensure uninterrupted tracking.
Note: When the driver taps "Stop Driving" at the end of their shift, location tracking and data flow will stop automatically.
