Camera Trips

On the Camera Trips page there are two main tabs that show different types of information:

  • Camera tab = browse and investigate trips and events to identify when something happened.

  • Footage tab = browse, filter, and review the video clips that have been requested and created for those trips.

Camera tab:

The Camera tab is focused on trips and events.

  • Shows trip‑level details: date, time, duration, vehicle/asset, etc.

  • Lets you see which trips have camera activity/events.

  • Used when you’re trying to answer questions like:

    • “Did something happen on this trip?”

    • “Which trips for this vehicle had camera events?”

  • From here, you typically:

    • Filter by date, vehicle, and event type.

    • Open a trip or event to confirm the time window you care about.

    • Then move on to request footage if needed.

Think of it as: “Find the right trip and time.”

Footage tab:

The Footage tab is focused on actual video clips.

  • Shows a list of footage requests and created clips, not just trips.

  • Lets you:

    • See which footage has already been created.

    • Filter/search by things like footage status, time, vehicle, and other attributes

    • Open and review footage that is ready.

  • Used when you’re trying to answer questions like:

    • “Which clips have already been created for this trip or vehicle?”

    • “Is my footage request done yet?”

    • “Where can I watch the video for this event?”

Think of it as: “Find and manage the actual video files.”

Camera tab:

The Camera tab lets you quickly find, review, and retrieve video clips recorded by your FleetWatcher cameras during vehicle trips.

It’s designed for users who need to investigate trips, verify events (for example, harsh driving or incidents), or pull video for coaching and safety reviews.

Each row in the table represents a single trip and includes:

  • Driver: The name of the operator assigned to the trip.

  • Trip Status: Indicates if a trip is In Progress (Green) or Complete (Grey).

  • Assigned Vehicle: The specific vehicle used for the journey.

  • Start/End: Precise timestamps for when the trip began and concluded.

  • Duration & Mileage: Total time on the road and distance covered.

  • Events: A count of specific triggers (such as safety alerts) recorded during the trip.

  • Device: The unique ID of the camera hardware.

Search Bar: Located at the top left, you can search for specific drivers or vehicles by name.

Settings and Filtering

Use the right-hand sidebar to narrow down your results. After selecting your criteria, click the Apply button to refresh the list.

Settings

You can adjust the time frame of the data shown using the Settings dropdown. Options include:

  • Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or Yearly: Quick presets for standard reporting.

  • Custom: Select a specific date range to find historical data.

Filters:

Trip Status

Filter your view based on whether a vehicle is currently on the road:

  • In-Progress: Shows only vehicles currently moving.

  • Complete: Shows finished trips only.

Has Events

To quickly find trips that require a manager's review, use the Has Events filter:

  • Contained Events: Only displays trips where a specific event (like harsh braking or speeding) was triggered.

  • No Events: Displays "clean" trips with no recorded incidents.

Equipment and Driver

  • Equipment/Driver Drop downs: Filter the list to a specific vehicle ID or a particular driver to audit their performance.

Pro Tip: If a trip is "In Progress," the End Time, Duration, and Mileage will remain blank until the vehicle has stopped and the trip is finalized.

Usability notes:

  • Filters update the trip/footage list immediately, so you can iterate quickly.

  • Filters can be combined (for example, “this vehicle + this date + trips with footage”) to get very precise results.

Camera Trips: Camera tab

    • Driver: Lists the drivers name

    • Trip Status: In Progress or Complete

    • Assigned Vehicle: Asset Name

    • Start/End: Start and Stop timestamp

    • Duration: Based on the Start and Stop events

    • Mileage: Total mileage for this line.

What does the Retrieve Footage button do?

Retrieve Footage: Use this button to request camera footage for the selected trip.

When you click Retrieve Footage a new page opens that allows you to view trip details. FleetWatcher will process the request and create a video clip. Once complete, the clip will appear under the Footage tab, where you can view and manage it.

Create Video:

  1. Click Retrieve Footage on a trip:

  2. A Retrieve Footage window opens.

  3. You choose what you want to retrieve, for that trip:

    • The time window (start/end time) within the trip.

    • Which cameras to include (if there are multiple).

    • Use the Time-lapse mode toggle to download the full video.

  4. Click Create Video.

  5. A popup window will appear allowing you to change the file name.

  6. Click Submit

  7. A Retrieval Submitted popup will display.

  8. Click Check Progress. This will open the Footage tab. Under the Status Column you will see “Upcoming” for newly retrieved footage.

    • Behind the scenes, the system pulls the raw camera data for that period and starts creating a video clip.

  9. Once the clip is ready, it appears as created footage.

Retrieve Footage behavior:

  • All cameras removed from the request
If you deselect/remove all cameras when setting up a retrieval, the UI gives clear feedback and shows a snapshot-style preview instead of full footage.

  • Time zone discrepancies
If there’s a mismatch between the trip time zone and your account/local time, the retrieve flow highlights it so you can confirm you’re grabbing the correct time window:
